Softball Splits Double-Header with Alabama

OXFORD, Miss. -- After dropping the first game of a double-header 10-2, the Ole Miss Rebels rebounded to win the second game 3-1 and notch its first-ever victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday afternoon. The Rebels are now 1-11 against the Tide all-time.

Ole Miss improved to 23-22 overall and 5-11 in the Southeastern Conference while the Tide dropped to 28-16 and 11-5.

In game two, Carrie Moreman gave the Tide a 1-0 lead with her sixth home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning, but the Rebels tied the score when Heather Swinney scored on a fielding error by the Tide in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Ole Miss put up two more runs on Korrie Kashuba's bases-loaded single to center in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Jennifer Hughes put the Tide down in order in the seventh to notch her 10th win of the season.

In game one, Alabama pounded out 13 hits en route to a 10-2 victory over the Rebels. Kelly Kretschman hit her sixth homer of the year and Kim Rohret hit her second home run of the season to pace the Tide.

Ole Miss takes to the road next weekend to take on the Tennessee Volunteers on Friday, April 16, and the Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday, April 18. The Rebels will play double-headers against both teams.
