TALLAHASSEE, Fla - The Ole Miss softball team bounced back from a tough 8-7 loss to Miami-Ohio Saturday morning and defeated Furman 10-2 to advance to the semifinals of the Bronze bracket of the Florida State Invitational.
Ole Miss improved to 16-10 overall and will take on the winner of the Florida A&M-Toledo game at 10 a.m. Sunday morning with the winner advancing to the finals of the Bronze bracket at 2 p.m.
In game one, Miami-Ohio rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win a three and a half hour marathon that featured three lead changes, a combined 12 walks, 22 runners left on base and 20 hits.
In the second game, Ole Miss led 3-2 before scoring five runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth for a 10-2 lead over Furman. The Rebels held the Lady Paladins scoreless in the bottom of the fifth and the game was called because of the eight run mercy rule.
Heather Swinney tripled and drove in three runs for the Rebels and Mandy Shklar doubled and drove in two and swipped two bases to help lead Ole Miss to victory.
