Softball Travels to Soutwest Missouri Classic

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss softball team will travel to Springfield, MO., for the Southwest Missouri State Classic on Feb. 27-28.
The Rebels, 5-2 on the season, will take on Southwest Missouri State and Iowa State in a three team round-robin.
Ole Miss plays Iowa State at 10 a.m. Saturday and at noon on Sunday. The Cyclones are 3-4 on the season and are led by freshman Laura Browning who is hitting .385 with three runs batted in. Iowa State is hitting .275 as a team and has a team ERA of 3.89.
The Rebels will play S.W. Missouri State at noon on Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Bears are 4-2 and split a double-header with No. 11 Oklahoma at the Adidas Invitational. The Bears are hitting .250 as a team and are led by junior Sarah Madden who is hitting .500.
Ole Miss is coming off a two game sweep of Belmont and enters the tournament hitting .350 as a team. Junior Amanda Fine threw a one-hitter against the Bruins and lowered her team-best earned run average to 2.24.
In the Zone
In her last two starts, including a one-hitter against Belmont in the second game of the double-header, P Amanda Fine has not given up a run and has allowed only four hits. Fine's scoreless inning streak as a starter currently stands at 14. Fine captured a 2-0 victory over Texas Tech in her previous start. Fine also pitched two perfect innings in a relief apperance against the Bruins in the first game of the double-header to pick up her second win of the season.
Hot Hitting Rebels
Ole Miss came out of its double-header with Belmont hitting .350 as a team. The Rebels pounded out 24 hits in the two games with the Bruins for a .464 series average.
Runnin' Rebs
So far this season the Rebels have stolen 10 bases in 15 attempts. The Rebels are averaging at least one stolen base per game this season and have swiped nine bases in their five wins.
Timely Hitting
Ole Miss batters are hitting an impressive .372 with runners on base this season. The Rebels are also hitting .431 with two outs and have driven in 17 two-out RBI. Catcher Allison Willrath leads the team with four two-out RBI followed by 1B Korrie Kashuba and SS Mandy Shklar each with three two-out RBI.
Carrying the Load
So far this season Amanda Fine and Kari Ceriani have combined to pitch in 74 percent of the Rebels games. Fine (25.0) and Ceriani (10.0) have appeared in 35 of the 47 total innings by Rebel pitchers. Ceriani (6) and Fine (13) have also accounted for 19 of the Rebels' 21 strikeouts and have a combined ERA of 2.80.
Almost Perfect
Junior pitcher Amanda Fine just missed throwing a perfect game against Texas Tech. Fine, a second team All-SEC player in 1998, gave up a lead-off single in the top of the sixth to break up the perfect game. Fine finished with a three-hit shutout over the Red Raiders and struck out four batters.
Shklar Shines
Junior SS Mandy Shklar opened the 1999 season in grand style hitting .389, driving in three runs and hitting her first career home run at the UT-Arlington Classic. Shklar also scored four runs , doubled and stole four bases.
Coming Through in the Clutch
With one out in the top of the seventh inning and trailing N.E. Louisiana 2-1, freshman LF Jessica Hamilton delivered a two-run single to give the Rebels a 3-2 victory. Hamilton finished the tournament hitting .500, with two doubles and two RBI.
Letts Leads the Way
Candi Letts enters her first year as head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels after coming over from Colorado State. In her sixth year as a collegiate head coach, Letts amassed a 155-105-1 record in five years with the Rams. Letts also lead Colorado State to a 51-win season and a WAC championship in 1997.

CF Stephanie Vaglica

3B Kaci Coffee

2B Rachel Davenport

1B Korrie Kashuba
