OXFORD, Miss. - After the second day of workouts for the Rebel newcomers, Ole Miss head football coach Tommy Tuberville is pleased with the group's progress.

"I like what this group has done over the past two days," said Tuberville, who enters his fourth season at the helm of the Rebel football program. "If this group stays together, they will be successful. We have to try to retain as many as we can and get better each day."

The Rebels continued to work on fundamentals and learning the basic offensive and defensive formations in their two Saturday sessions. The newcomers also worked on team concepts to get familiar with the collegiate game.

"They looked better today," Tuberville said. "The newcomers began to grasp some of the ideas we're trying to teach them, but the main thing we want to teach them right now is work ethic and allow them to get familiar with the speed and tempo of the game.

"Some of the guys started to drag today, but the overall enthusiasm is still high. They will have a couple of days off, and then they will start back on Tuesday with the varsity."

The Rebels will take the next two days off from practice, as the upperclassmen report Sunday afternoon. On Monday, the varsity players will attend meetings.

"Meet the Rebels Day" will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 11:00 a.m. outside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. "Meet the Rebels Day" is a day for the fans to meet the players and coaches and get schedule posters and autographs.
