Volleyball Heads to Northwestern Tournament

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss volleyball team, 4-4 overall, will participate in the Evanston Holiday Inn Wildcat Classic in Evanston, Ill, this weekend. Northwestern is the host school for the tournament, which also includes Lehigh, Missouri and Towson.

Ole Miss starts off the tournament at 2:30 p.m. Friday with Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks are 5-5 overall and are led by senior Kimberly Freedman with 142 kills and by Patty Watson with 104 digs.

The Lady Rebels take on Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Northwestern is 6-2 on the year and is led by sophomore Carmen Burbach with 86 kills and 82 digs, followed by senior Jessica Holloway with 78 kills and 70 digs.

On Saturday, Ole Miss plays Towson (5-5) at 9:30 a.m. Sophomore Meridith Baron is first on the team with 117 kills, a .278 hitting percentage and 19 total blocks. Junior Lyssa Pershing is second with 97 kills and a .265 hitting percentage. Senior Lia Kaltreider has 69 digs on the season.

The Lady Rebels take on Missouri at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The Tigers are 4-3 on the year after winning their first four matches and losing their last three. Sophomore Annette Luyten leads Missouri with 88 kills, followed by senior Jodi Maune with 86 kills. Senior Chandra Hopkins leads the team with 91 digs.

Ole Miss is coming off a five-game win over Arkansas State Tuesday night. Freshman Jaime Burns of Englewood, Colo., led Ole Miss with 19 kills and 12 digs, followed by junior Kari Elggren of Sandy, Utah, with 15 kills and 12 digs. The Lady Rebels served 11 aces against ASU as junior Lisa Frannino of Metairie, La., had four service aces and Elggren had three.

Elggren leads the team with 102 kills, followed by Burns with 88. Senior Danielle Atzinger of Louisville, Ky., is first in digs with 87, followed by Burns with 77. Junior Lauren Dorcheus of Houston, Texas, has 30 total blocks to lead the Lady Rebels, followed by freshman Leigh Rittiner of New Orleans, La., with 24 and sophomore Anna Hackbarth of Chaska, Minn., with 23. Frannino has 214 assists and 14 service aces, first on the team in both categories.
