Volleyball Loses Two Matches at SMU Invitational

DALLAS -- The Ole Miss volleyball team took the first two games from SMU but lost the last three by a score of 2-15, 10-15, 15-12, 15-10, 15-12 in the Bristol Hotels-Resorts SMU Invitational on Saturday. Ole Miss dropped to 3-4 on the year, while SMU improved to 6- 2.

Kari Elggren led the Lady Rebels with 20 kills, a .217 hitting percentage and 14 digs. Jaime Burns had 16 kills, a .256 hitting percentage and 12 digs, and Lisa Frannino had 12 kills, a .259 hitting percentage and 17 digs. Danielle Atzinger added 15 kills for Ole Miss.

Erin Pryor led SMU with 20 kills and 16 digs, followed by Jennie Amos with 13 kills. The Mustangs served 10 aces in the match.

In the earlier match Saturday, Liberty downed Ole Miss 16-14, 15-11, 11-15, 15-12 in a two-hour, five-minute match. Elggren led the Lady Rebels with 14 kills and a .286 hitting percentage, followed by Burns with 11 kills and 25 digs. Lauren Dorcheus added 10 kills and a .269 hitting percentage, while Renata Nowacki chipped in six kills, a .750 hitting percentage and 15 digs.

Liberty (2-4) was led by Kyrie Dorn with 23 kills, a .233 hitting percentage and 10 digs. Anthonia Akpama added 14 kills and 20 digs.

Ole Miss returns to Oxford to host Arkansas State Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Note: Kari Elggren and Jaime Burns were named to the All-Tournament team.
