OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team will kick off the spring season this weekend at the University of Arizona Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. The Lady Rebels will face San Diego in the first match, Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center.

The Lady Rebels are looking for a repeat of last year, as they won the Arizona Invitational by going 3-0 with wins over Tulsa, TCU and Arizona. This year's invitational also features 58th-ranked Kansas State.

The Lady Rebels are coming off a successful 1998 campaign in which they posted a 17-6 record and defeated Arizona State in the first round of the NCAA Team Championships to advance to the quarterfinals. Ole Miss is led by three-time All-Americans Agnes Muzamel and Courtenay Chapman, as well as Ivona Mihailova and newcomer Celeste Frey. The Lady Rebels are the only team to boast three players in the top 25 in singles with Muzamel ranked No. 3 in the nation, Mihailova No. 14 and Frey No. 21.

San Diego, ranked 33rd in the team rankings, comes into the match boasting the nation's current No. 1 player, Zuzana Lesenarova. Ole Miss and San Diego opened the 1996 season against each other, with the Lady Rebels taking a 5-4 win in San Diego.

On Saturday, the Lady Rebels will meet Kansas State. The Wildcats are led by sophomore Martina Pospisilova, who is ranked 73rd in the country.

In the final round robin match, Ole Miss plays host Arizona, who comes in ranked 24th. The Lady Rebels defeated the Wildcats by a narrow margin of 5-4 in the finals of last year's invitational.
