Women's Volleyball Opens SEC Play

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team, 6-6 on the season, will begin SEC action with Georgia on Friday at 7 p.m. and South Carolina on Sunday at 2 p.m. sat the Women's Multi-Sport Complex in Oxford.
The Lady Rebels are coming off a 2-2 weekend at the Evanston Holiday Inn Wildcat Classic, hosted by Northwestern. Ole Miss defeated Lehigh 3-1 and Towson 3-0 but lost to Northwestern 3-0 and Missouri 3-1.
Kari Elggren, a junior from Sandy, Utah, leads the Lady Rebels with 150 kills on the season, followed by junior Lauren Dorcheus of Houston, Texas, with 94 kills. Dorcheus leads Ole Miss with a .356 hitting percentage and also leads the team in total blocks with 37. Danielle Atzinger, a senior from Louisville, Ky., leads the team in digs with 117, followed by Lisa Frannino, a junior from Metairie, La., with 107. Frannino leads Ole Miss in assists with 317 and in service aces with 18.
Georgia, 2-7 overall and 0-0 in the SEC, is led by junior Kathy Vis, who is first on the team in kills (118), hitting percentage (.277), service aces (11) and blocks (39). The Lady Bulldogs went 1-2 in the Outback Invitational last weekend, falling to Oral Roberts and Villnova but defeating Duke.
South Carolina is 10-1 and is ranked third in the NCAA District IV poll. Last weekend, the Gamecocks defeated Murray State, Troy State and Tennessee-Chattanooga to capture the Chattanooga Invitational. Freshman Cally Plummer leads South Carolina in kills with 130, and junior Crystal Moore leads the team in digs with 105. Junior Danika Taylor is first in blocks with 38.
