OXFORD, Miss. - Carol Sensley, a 1993 graduate of the University of Louisville, has been named an assistant coach for the Ole Miss women's basketball program, head coach Ron Aldy announced on Tuesday.
Sensley replaces Kathy Wilson, a member of the staff for the past two seasons, who left early this summer to take a position with the George Washington University women's basketball program.
A native of Lake Charles, La., Sensley comes to Ole Miss after spending the last five years as an assistant women's basketball coach at McNeese State University. During her five seasons, McNeese State advanced to the Southland Conference Tournament semifinals and posted a 17-9 record during the 1996-97 season and a school best .654 winning percentage. In her first year, the Cowgirls upset nationally-ranked Stephen F. Austin.
"We are thrilled to have coach Sensley joining our staff," said Aldy, who will be starting his third season as the Lady Rebels head coach. "She is truly an exceptional and unique individual. Carol possesses a love for the game of basketball and a passion for coaching, but her best trait is a genuine interest in the overall development of our student-athletes."
Before joining the McNeese State coaching staff, Sensley served as an assistant coach at Dupont Manuel High School in Louisville, Ky. While there, she also coached a 16-and-under AAU team that advanced to the regional tournament.
Sensley was a standout point guard for the Lady Cardinals basketball team. As a captain, she helped her team win the Metro Conference Tournament title in 1993 and advance to the NCAA Tournament, where they upset Connecticut in the first round in Storrs. They were the last team to defeat Connecticut at home until Georgia did it three years ago. During her three years at Louisville, the Lady Cardinals appeared in two NCAA Tournaments and the WNIT. Sensley's name appears on the all-time list in career assists (254) and career assists average (3.8).
Prior to playing at Louisville, Sensley spent two seasons at Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas, where she earned All-Conference honors and was selected to participate in the Junior College All-Star Game.
Off the court, Sensley was a member of the Academic Honor Roll. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, with a minor in Special Education, from the University of Louisville in 1993. Sensley is a member of the National Association of Women's Basketball Coaches. Active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Athletes in Action, Sensley is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Sensley and her husband, Tim were recently married in June of 1998.
The 1999-2000 Lady Rebels return nine letterwinners, including four starters from last year's squad which posted the program's 23rd winning season and advanced to postseason play for the 15th time. This season also comemorates the 25th anniversary of varsity women's basketball at Ole Miss.
