ARKANSAS STATE POSTGAME QUOTES

ASU Head Coach Joe Hollis:
"We had a tough opener with Illinois. We worked on an aggressive game plan offensively and defensively. We were very demanding with out player and we worked very hard with our players. I am so proud they extended themselves and played with a lot of heart. The big key to us is doing it week in and week out. It's going to be a great challenge each week. We emptied our playbook tonight. There's nothing left. I am proud because they feel better about themselves."

"I think Ole Miss is a very good football team. They had a great shutout last week. We went back to doing what we do best, getting the football to people that can make things happen. We tried to keep them off balance with formations, personnel changes and motions."

" I thought our offensive line did a nice job. We have to give credit to our offensive line and to three play makers: Cleo (Lemon) and Lamont (Zachery) and Robert (Kilow). They extended themselves and had a great ballgame. The only negative was our total yardage and points are not the same. I know that with the yardage we gained, we should have scored more points. "

"On Friday going to the office a crucial mistake for a head football coach is to listen to sports talk shows and I happen to have it on a Memphis station and they were talking about how we were a cupcake. I ?m telling you, we are not a cupcake."

Cleo Lemon (Quarterback) for ASU:
"We wanted to play our hardest and execute. We knew this was an important game. We thought play action would get them. Our main goal was trying to stop the run. They tried to stop the run but when you do that you set up the pass."

"Nobody's happy after a loss but we executed better on offense. People were sad."

"We did a good job with field position. They were running good routes and they were getting open. "

Andy Shatley for ASU:
"We throw it up and try to make it look like a punt and hopefully the return man doesn't see me and just goes after the ball. There's a lot of bad things that can happen for a return team, numerous things can happen. They can bump our receivers and get called for pass interference. The guy can catch the ball for the interception and they can knock his head off. The best thing that can happen is that our guy can catch the ball. He made a great play. He went up and brought it down. The best possible thing happened. I saw a bunch of guys fighting tonight. We had our backs against the wall. We just played a good team. Whenever you're down, you have to find a way to give yourself confidence. The defense fought, the offense fought. The offensive line did a great job tonight.

Robert Kilow (Receiver) for ASU:
"I basically just wanted to show my high school coach that I could do what I did in high school."

"I watched defensive backs on film and try to see what kind of steps they had, whether they are in the man-to-man or in the zone. Coach talked to me about what kind of zone they are in so that I know for myself. They wanted to back off me a lot but it was still soft. If they throw me the ball, I catch it. I don't picture myself as real big athlete. I run the routes I'm supposed to run. That's basically it. I'm not really worried about how I play, but the team as a whole. Our goal this year is not to go out and be all world, we know we're not going to be a national championship team but we are trying to go out win the Big West Championship. As a team, we found out that we can do it.

OLE MISS POSTGAME QUOTES

HEAD COACH DAVID CUTCLIFFE
"We played against a team that battled hard. They came from behind and had to overcome a lot of adversity. I'm very proud of the defense. We shut them down in the second half.".

"Arkansas State has a great running back and quarterback, and they have outstanding wide receivers."

(About the offense)
"We didn't panic. We knew we had a chance to be a great offensive team. There's no guarantees. It's just one game at a time. Our only focus is to look at the tape and correct the mistakes as we begin conference play."

"Joe Gunn is a warrior and a competitor. He's all about business."

"This is only one game, and we will learn a lot of things from this game. We did some really good things in the kicking game. We've just got to keep getting better."

(On Vanderbilt)
"They are another team that had to overcome adversity. Vanderbilt is a much-improved team. They are much better on offense and they are outstanding on defense. They're going to present a great challenge."

OLE MISS PLAYERS

JOE GUNN
"I have to thank the offensive line. Those guys did a great job of blocking for me. It was a great team win. We worked all week on playing hard and staying focused. We came out and played hard tonight."

(About areas to improve on)
"Judging my holes, running hard, and holding on to the ball. That's what I try to come out and do every game."

ANTHONY MAGEE
"We came out, we knew exactly what we needed to do, and we did it."

(On his interception)
"That's all Coach Cut talks about. No matter what you do, when the opportunity comes along, make something happen."

"We knew watching them this week they had a good group of receivers. I have to thank the defensive line and linebackers for taking a lot of pressure off of us. They stopped the run."

ROMARO MILLER
"We had a lot to prove after last week because we only scored three points. We moved the ball pretty good tonight. We still made mistakes, but the best thing about it is that we can go out there next week and improve a little more."

(On the team's 484 yards of total offense)
"That's a big improvement from last week. We moved the ball pretty good tonight but we can't relax. We've got Vanderbilt next week. If we want to win a SEC game next week, we'll have to do better."
