Lady Rebels Drop First Game Of Air Force Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. - Despite a valiant come back attempt, the Ole Miss Lady Rebel volleyball team dropped their first match of the Air Force Invitational 3-0, to the Air Force Academy Falcons Thursday night.
Sophomore Jaime Burns led the offensive attack for the Lady Rebels with 10 kills, followed by Abby Hollander with five and Sarah Lansden with four. Lansden finished the match with a .500 attacking percentage.
After nine side outs to start the match, Air Force (1-0) quickly jumped out to a 10-0 lead before eventually winning the game 15-4. The Lady Rebels (1-1) could not get back into the match despite a hard fought 15-13 loss in game three.
With Air Force leading 7-3 in game two, the Falcons and Lady Rebels exchanged possessions nine times before Air Force scored the next eight points for the 15-3 win.
The Lady Rebels had trouble getting into rhythm until the end of the match. Ole Miss held the 9-7 advantage midway through the third game after two aces by senior Rebecca Rider before Air Force used two aces of its own to close out the match.
It was a sloppy match, with 20 service errors between the two teams, seven by Ole Miss and 13 by Air Force. The Lady Rebels failed to capitalize on the Falcons mistakes while the Falcons used every opportunity the Lady Rebels gave them.
Ole Miss continues play in the Air Force Invitational Friday at 10 am CST against Fordham (0-1) and again at 6 pm CST against Eastern Illinois (1-0). Eastern Illinois defeated Fordham in earlier action Thursday 3-0.
The Lady Revels return home for the Ole Miss Invitational September 10 and 11 to take on Arkansas State and Wake Forest.
