OLE MISS POSTGAME NOTES
Today's win marked the Rebels first-ever at Auburn in nine tries.
With today's victory, the Rebels improved to 23-16 following a loss during the decade of the 1990s.
Ole Miss has recorded at least one quarterback sack in its last 15 regular season contests dating back to 1997. The last time Ole Miss did not record at QB sack was against Mississippi State in the ?97 season-finale.
Prior to today's game, the last time Ole Miss had a punt blocked for a touchdown was against Florida on October 1, 1994 in Oxford. The Gators' Kedra Malone blocked Lonny Calicchio's kick and Fred Weary scooped up the ball for a 10-yard TD return. The last the Rebels had a punt blocked was last season at Vanderbilt.
Junior quarterback Romaro Miller cracked the top 10 on the Ole Miss career list for total offense. Miller accumulated 241 yards of total offense in today's game to move into ninth-place on the Rebel career total offense chart. Miller now has 3,174 career total offense yards, surpassing Tim Ellis (1974-77) with 2,965 yards and Charlie Conerly (1942, 1946-47) with 3,076 yards.
Miller threw for 242 yards, marking his 10th career 200-yard passing performance. He is one shy of the school record of 11 set by Kent Austin (1981-85). He also became the ninth quarterback in Rebel history to surpass the 3,000-yard mark in career passing yards. He now has 3,127 career passing yards.
The lost fumble by Ole Miss in the third quarter was the Rebels' first in 11 quarters, extending back to the third quarter of the season-opener at Memphis.
Les Binkley's 45-yard field goal in the fourth quarter was his career long. His previous career long was 40 yards, earlier this year in the win over Memphis. He has hit all five of his field goal attempts this season.
Redshirt freshman tight end Doug Zeigler's 44-yard pass reception from Miller was a career-long for Zeigler.
Redshirt freshman fullback Toward Sanford caught his first career pass with a 10-yard pick-up from Miller in the second quarter.
Today's game was Ole Miss' sixth overtime contest since the NCAA instituted the overtime period at the start of the 1996 season. The six overtime games are the most by an SEC team. With today's win, Ole Miss is now 4-2 in overtime games. In overtime games in their history, the Rebels defeated Central Florida (24-23) in 1997, SMU (48-41) and LSU (37-31) in 1998, and Auburn (24-17) in 1999. The Rebels' overtime defeats were to Alabama (20-17) in 1998 and Vanderbilt (37-34) in 1999.
Cory Peterson had two TD receptions in today's game. It was the third time in his career that he has caught two TD passes in a game. He also had two TD receptions in wins over Memphis and LSU last year.
Cory Peterson remained in seventh place on both the Ole Miss career receptions and career receiving yards charts. He now has 108 career receptions for 1,488 yards.
Cory Peterson caught six passes for 113 yards to record his four career 100-yard receiving game.
AUBURN GAME NOTES
INDIVIDUAL
Ryan Hooker's touchdown reception in the third quarter was the first of his career.
Freshman quarterback Jeff Klein's touchdown pass to Ryan Hooker was his first touchdown pass of his career.
TEAM
Auburn's blocked punt for a touchdown was its first since 1995 against UT-Chattanooga when Tyreece Williams blocked resulted in a touchdown for Larry Melton scored.
The Tigers have scored two special teams touchdowns this season. Last week at LSU, Tiger place-kicker Damon Duval scored on a fake field goal.
Rashaud Walker's interception in the fourth quarter was the first of his career and it kept the string of Auburn intercepting a pass in 11 straight games dating back to the Mississippi State game last season.
Auburn scored in 13 consecutive quarters before the streak came to an end in the fourth quarter against Ole Miss. The Tigers have scored 13 of 16 quarters this season.
Tommy Tuberville has a 3-2 record in overtimes in his career, with the first four games coming at Ole Miss. Tuberville led the Rebels to a 24-23 victory over Central Florida in 1997 while defeating both SMU 48-41 and LSU 37-31 in 1998 and losing at Alabama 20-17 in 1998. His Auburn Tigers lost to Ole Miss 24-17 today.
Auburn is now 0-2 in overtime games, losing to Georgia 56-49 in four overtimes and losing to Ole Miss 24-17.
