Lady Rebels Drop Conference Game To Auburn, 3-1

AUBURN, Ala.--Despite fighting back from a two-game deficit to within one in the best of five match, the Ole Miss Lady Rebel volleyball team dropped their second Southeastern Conference game this weekend, 3-1, on the road at Auburn Sunday.
The Lady Rebels (7-6, 0-2) fought hard in game one, battling to within one, 7-6, after being down 7-1. Ole Miss held off the Tigers six times at game-point before dropping the first game 15-10.
Auburn (12-3, 2-0) came back from an 8-2 Ole Miss lead to take the second game 15-11. The Tigers scored 12 consecutive points to take the lead for good, but it took the Tigers three tries to finally close out the match.
Facing the loss, Ole Miss rallied back in game three from a 5-0 deficit to a 15-11 win and sent the match to four games. Auburn closed out the win in game four 15-2.
The Lady Rebels were led by sophomore Jaime Burns with 17 kills and 12 digs, both match highs. She currently leads the team in kills and kills per game and is fifth in the SEC in that category.
Two other Lady Rebels posted double digit kill marks. Junior Kira Zschau and senior Lauren Dorcheus had 13 and 12 kills respectively.
Defensively, four Lady Rebels contributed with double digit dig marks. Including Burns, freshman Sarah Lansden had 12 digs, while Zschau and Frannino posted 10 dig matches.
This was the seventh double-double match for both Burns and Zschau this season, which leads the team.
The Lady Rebels return home to take on the eight-ranked Florida Gators Sunday, October 3 at 2 p.m. The Gators have won eight consecutive conference titles and have made four national semi-finals appearances.
