OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss freshman Bridget Brooks scored the game-winning goal with 14 minutes left in the first half to lift the Lady Rebels to a 2-0 Southeastern Conference women's soccer victory over Alabama on Sunday. Junior Jessica O'Neill added another goal 13 minutes into the second half for the final 2-0 margin of victory.

The victory improved Ole Miss' overall record to 8-2 and its SEC mark to 3-1. With their sweep of Auburn and Alabama this weekend, the Lady Rebels now sit atop the SEC Western Division standings with a 3-1 league record.

"This win has been a long time coming," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "We had a great week of practice leading up to this weekend's games (against Auburn and Alabama), and the players really deserved these wins. Now, we have to refocus and get prepared to play Mississippi State on Wednesday."

Brooks put the game-winner on the board with 14 minutes left in the first half on a header from five yards out. Freshman Emily Maxwell recorded the assist on Brooks' goal. The goal was Brooks' fourth of the weekend, as she netted her first career hat trick in Ole Miss' 6-1 victory over Auburn on Friday. Maxwell's assist was the first of her collegiate career.

In the second half, Ole Miss extended its lead to 2-0 when O'Neill's header from six yards out found the back of the net. Freshman Megan Bowman picked up the assist on O'Neill's score. The assist was Bowman's first of her career.

The Lady Rebels out-shot Alabama, 14-6 and held an 8-2 corner kick advantage. Senior Birna Bjornsdottir (no saves) and sophomore Melinda Smith (one save) combined for the shutout for the Lady Rebels. Alabama sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Brown had six saves for the Crimson Tide.

Ole Miss returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29 when its host in-state rival Mississippi State at 7:00 p.m. at the Ole Miss Soccer Field.
