Men's Tennis Successful At SEC Indoor Championship

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - It was a good day for the Rebels as five members of the Ole Miss men's tennis team advanced to the second round of singles at the SEC Indoor Championships at Hank Crisp Indoor Facility, Friday.
Freshman sensation Alex Hartman got things going early with a 6-2, 6-3 win over South Carolina's Jeff Bergman. Senior Vikrant Chadha downed LSU's Anthony Mateljan 6-1, 6-2 and Anders Stenman defeated Mississippi State's Charles Sevigny, ranked 83rd in the nation, 7-6(7), 6-3.
The Rebels' top player James Shortall, took out Seth Rose of South Carolina in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Shortall advanced to the finals of this tournament last year in both singles and doubles.
In the late afternoon matches, Kristofer Stahlberg defeated Mississippi State's Jerome LeBelicard, ranked 80th in the nation, 7-6(6), 6-3. Martin Selin, who was scheduled to meet Kentucky's Dallibar Maholijvic, defaulted with a knee bruise. At press time Selin was still questionable for doubles, which begin Saturday.
The Rebels face some excellent competition again Saturday, with Chadha against 18th-ranked Peter Handoyo of Tennessee, and Stenman versus 48th-ranked Johan Hesoun. Hartman squares off against Daniel Kiernan of LSU. Stahlberg plays Gustav Pousette from Kentucky.
