Ole Miss Volleyball Defeats Arkansas State, 3-0

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team defeated Arkansas State by the score of 15-4, 16-14, 16-14 at the Gillom Sports Center on Tuesday. The win improves the Lady Rebels' record to 11-11 on the season, while the Lady Indians fall to 14-7.

The Lady Rebels jumped out to a quick victory in game one and looked like they would cruise to the easy win, but the Lady Indians came back in game two and played strong. Arkansas State forged a 12-9 lead in game two before surrendering the 16-14 loss. Ole Miss leaped out to a 11-6 lead in game three before allowing the Lady Indians to creep their way back in and force a 14-14 tie. After regrouping, the Lady Rebels scored two straight points to take game three and the match.

Senior outside hitter Kira Zschau led the Lady Rebels with 19 kills and 18 digs. Junior outside hitter Jaime Burns also recorded a double-double for Ole Miss as she collected 17 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Erin Newsom came up big at the net for the Lady Rebels as she led the team with nine block assists. The Argyle, Texas, native also tallied 10 digs and seven kills.

Junior right-side hitter Leigh Rittiner registered seven kills and seven block assists for the Ole Miss and senior setter Renata Nowacki had 50 assists and eight digs.

Arkansas State was led by Shauna Standart with 13 kills and 16 digs. Nikki Guerra contributed 10 kills and 13 digs and Kelly Linder assisted on 45 kills.

The Lady Rebels will return to action on Friday, Oct. 20, when they play at South Carolina at 7 p.m.
