ROCK HILLS, S.C. - The Ole Miss volleyball team defeated Winthrop, 14-16, 15-11, 15-12, 15-11 on Saturday night in their final non-conference match of the 2000 season. The win improves the Lady Rebels to 12-12 overall, while they remain 2-7 in SEC play. The loss drops the Lady Eagles to 17-6 on the season.

The Lady Rebels pulled out to a 13-10 lead in game one before allowing the Lady Eagles to come back and take the game 16-14. Despite the letdown in game one, Ole Miss regrouped and notched two straight wins in games two and three. The Lady Rebels came out flat in game four and found themselves down 11-3, before coming back to defeat Winthrop 15-11 and take the match.

"We showed a lot of fight out there tonight," said Ole Miss head coach John Blair. "Kira (Zschau) had a phenomenal night out there and Leigh (Rittiner) was really big for us at the net to close out the match."

Zschau, a senior outside hitter, led the Lady Rebels with 30 kills and 25 digs, both of which were new career-highs. With the 30 kills, Zschau moves into a second place tie with teammate Jaime Burns on the single-match kill chart.

Juniors Burns, Rittiner and Abby Hollander joined Zschau in double figure kills. Burns tallied 13 kills, 14 digs and five blocks. Rittiner registered 13 kills, six digs and six blocks. Hollander had 12 kills with a hitting percentage of .435 and eight blocks.

Senior setter Renata Nowacki set a new career-high with 72 assists and also collected 19 digs. Sophomore Erin Newsom had nine kills and five blocks and freshman Jade Polonich came off the bench and tallied 15 digs.

The Lady Rebels will return to action on Friday, Oct. 27, when they host LSU at 7 p.m., at the Gillom Sports Center.
