Box Score

ATHENS, Ga. - The Ole Miss soccer team picked up a key Southeastern Conference road win Friday night, knocking off Georgia, 3-2. With the win, the Rebels (12-4, 5-2 SEC) clinch at least a share of their second straight SEC Western Division title.

Freshman Tiffany Weiss put Ole Miss on the scoreboard first, firing a 12-yard goal following a turnover at the 31:27 mark. It was the first career goal for the Dallas, Texas native.

The Rebels' 1-0 lead stood until the 46th minute when the game hit a stretch of four goals in less than four minutes. Sophomore forward Bridget Brooks padded the Ole Miss lead with her team-high eighth goal of the season at 46:14. Fellow sophomore Courtney Biddle put the Rebels ahead 3-0 at the 47:53 with an 18-yard score, assisted by Sarah Wong and Jennifer Soileau.

Georgia (8-7-2, 3-3-1 SEC) answered in the 49th minute when Ashley King connected from five yards out. A minute later, the Bulldogs pulled within one on Lauren Zacharski's third goal of the season, assisted by Shannon Murray, at 50:08.

Neither team would score again in what was a back-and-forth battle. Team shots finished even at 13-13, and saves were 6-5 in favor of Ole Miss' Melinda Smith.

"It's always hard to play on the road in the SEC," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "I was proud of our girls for playing for 90 minutes. It would have been real easy to let up after Georgia came back with the two goals.

"Melinda Smith had a great game. She had some big time saves tonight."

It was the Rebels' first ever victory in Athens and the second win over an SEC East team in three games this season. Ole Miss will be looking to wrap up the Western Division title Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup with Tennessee in Knoxville.
