ASK DEUCE

Q- What influenced you the most to strive for leadership and excellence, not only in your game, but throughout your childhood? And whom would you give the recognition to?
-Tiffany Brown, Greenwood, Miss.

A- My parents instilled in me the idea that you should always want more for yourself. If you work hard, good things will happen for you.

Q- My kindergarten son is your biggest fan! He goes by "Little Deuce" at school. Our question is when did your desire to become a football player begin for you?
-Renee Camp, Hernando, Miss.

A- As a young kid growing up, I always watched football and played it with my friends so I guess I have always wanted to play football. I wasn't just a football player though. My parents got me involved in sports period, to keep me out of trouble and give me something to do. I played soccer, basketball, baseball and football-it just happened to turn out that I was better at football than the other sports!

Q- I was visiting Oxford from Australia last year, when I attended the Rebels' game against Georgia. Naturally, I have been brought up on Australian football and didn't know much about your game. However, my memory of that game and particularly of you, gave me an appreciation of American football. Now I keenly follow the fortunes of the Rebels through your website. Thanks for the great memory and good luck in the future! Now for my question: Have you ever seen Australian football? And if so, what do you think of it?
-David Solosy, Inglewood, Western Australia

A- Physical, very physical! I don't know if I would be able to play that! It says a lot for the people that can go out there and play without a helmet! I love football, but if I had to play by those rules, I am not sure how long I would last!

Q- What advice would you give high school athletes to be able to perform at their best and achieve their goals?
-Billy Earls, Morton, Miss.

A- First of all, education is the key. You have to always keep in mind that once your playing career is over, you have to have something to fall back on. You should strive to maximize your ability. You know when you have done all you can do as a player and you also know when you are slacking and not working as hard as you can. As long as you know you have worked hard and done all you can do, you should be proud.

Q- I wanted to know if you worked out while you traveled this summer to Costa Rica and where?
-John Thompson, Rienzi, Miss.

A- Yes, I did workout in Costa Rica. I went to this gym and spa sort of place. They had most of the things I needed to stay in shape. It was not as nice as our weightroom, but it was enough for me to stay in pretty good shape.

Q- What kinds of music do you like to listen to and who are your favorite musical artists? Also, college life is filled with partying and drinking, what is your take on that aspect of college life?
-Jonathon Jones, Picayune, Miss.

A- As for partying, I think you just have to be mature about it and understand how to handle what amount is right for you. I can't really tell you not to do it. Influence and pressure is going to always be there, but you have to you have to decide how much you can handle.

As for music, I listen to all types. I like Boyz II Men a lot and I also listen to rap and gospel.

Q- I would like to know what other sports you played growing up and which sport did you start with first?
-Hope Burford, Ridgeland, Miss.

A- I played lots of sports! I played soccer, basketball, baseball and football. I would say I started with basketball first, but I started them all at about the same time!

Q- What was your favorite thing about Costa Rica? And do you ever plan to go back?
-Gena Sharpe, Huntsville, Ala.

A- If I am able to, I definitely want to go back. I would love to return to Costa Rica, except this time not for a class! The neatest thing I experienced was seeing all of the wild animals just out and about. I saw wild boars and horses. Also, fishing on a dormant volcano was pretty cool. Another neat thing was being able to drive down the road and see a mountain range on one side of the road and nothing but miles and miles of water on the other side.
