Ole Miss Volleyball Clinches SEC Tournament Berth

AUBURN, Ala. - The Ole Miss volleyball team clinched a spot in the 2000 SEC Tournament field by defeating Auburn, 6-15, 15-11, 15-6, 9-15, 16-14, Friday night. The win sends the Lady Rebels back to the SEC Tournament for the first time since 1998. The victory improves Ole Miss' record to 15-14 overall and 5-9 in SEC play. Auburn drops to 13-14 overall and 3-11 in the conference.
Ole Miss' familiar one-two punch of senior Kira Zschau and junior Jaime Burns again led the Lady Rebels. Zschau led Ole Miss in both kills, with 25, and digs, with 18, while Burns was right behind her with 19 kills and 13 digs.
Senior setter Renata Nowacki was also sensational for Ole Miss, leading the Lady Rebels with 73 assists, while also adding 10 digs. Nowacki's 73 assists are a new career-high and also put her in a first-place tie with Lisa Frannino on the Lady Rebels individual match assists chart.
Sophomore Erin Newsom also recorded a double-double for Ole Miss. Newsom tallied 13 kills and 11 digs, while also recording a career-high five service aces during the match. Junior Leigh Rittiner added 12 kills and two blocks, while sophomore Sarah Lansden added 13 digs for the Lady Rebels.
Ole Miss will play their regular season finale at Alabama on Sunday at 2 p.m.
