Men's Basketball Defeats Spirit Express In Exhibition

OXFORD, Miss. - David Sanders scored 22 points , including 10- of-11 from the free throw line, to lead five Mississippi players in double figures as the Rebels defeated the Spirit Express 99-74 in an exhibition game win Monday
Sanders, a junior college transfer guard, led a balanced Ole Miss attack that featured 16 points from freshman guard Aaron Harper and 11 from freshman forward Justin Reed. Veteran guards Jason Harrison and Jason Flanigan added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Trailing 5-2 early, Ole Miss went on a 19-0 run midway in the first half to build an insurmountable 21-5 lead. The newcomer guard tandem of Aaron Harper and Sanders scored eight points apiece as the Rebels led 51-30 at halftime.
The Spirit Express, led by Ali McGhee with 20 points, pulled as close as 74-57 with nine minutes remaining. Ole Miss answered with a 17-0 run to build the game's biggest lead, 91-57, with six minutes left.
Ole Miss hosts Christian Brothers College Saturday in the final exhibition contests for both teams. The Rebels open the regular season Nov. 18, hosting Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 12:00 p.m. (CT).
