OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss' women's tennis team is ranked No. 19 in the fall edition of the WingspanBank.com Collegiate National Rankings released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Sophomore Julie DeRoo earned her first top 10 ranking of her career, coming in at No. 7.
Tuesday's team poll was determined by vote of the ITA National Ranking Committee, while the individual rankings were based on fall 2000 results.
This marks the 11th consecutive year that the Lady Rebels have been ranked among the nation's top 25 teams. They ended the 1999-2000 campaign ranked No. 18 with a 16-8 record and made the NCAA Championships for the eighth time.
DeRoo posted a 5-4 record in the fall including a win over the nation's current No. 4 player. All four of DeRoo's losses came against players in the top 30, and three were against top 10 players including the No. 1 player.
"We are very proud of the way that Julie has represented Ole Miss this fall," head coach Jerry Montgomery said. "She has provided excellent leadership for us on and off the court. We are optimistic about this being a great spring for her and she is a real key to our success in team competition."
Sophomore Mira Radu is ranked No. 42 in singles. She posted a 4-4 record in the fall including a top 20 win.
DeRoo and Radu jumped up to No. 12 in the doubles' rankings. The pair recorded a 5-3 record this fall.
The Lady Rebels open the spring season Jan. 15 against Middle Tennessee here in Oxford.
