OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team inked three signees for the 2002 season - Nicole Alger, Megan Kozar and Brooke Turner, as announced by Rebel head coach Candi Letts.

Alger, a pitcher and utility player from Tulsa, Okla., set state records for highest batting average (.605) and slugging percentage (.842) last year. She was an All-State selection in 1999 and led Tulsa Union to a Class 6A state title and a national ranking. Alger is the MVP of the 1999 Oklahoma State Tournament.

"Nicole is an impact player who brings power to the plate and pure athleticism on the field," Letts said. "She can be a dominant pitcher but also has the ability to play anywhere on the field."

Kozar, an infielder/outfielder from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., is a three-time All-Conference selection. She led Palm Beach Gardens High to District Championships the last two years and was recently named to the U.S. Fast-Pitch Softball Association 2000 All-Academic Team.

"Megan is a very tenacious player who gets the job done wherever she plays," Letts said. "She brings depth to our program as well as a determined attitude on making this program better."

Also joining the Rebels for the 2002 season is Turner, an outfielder from Southaven, Miss. Turner helped lead Southaven High to a 2000 state championship, batting .289 with two homers and 11 stolen bases. She was also a starter for the Southaven High state champion volleyball team.

"Brooke is one of the best players in Mississippi," Letts said. "She will immediately add more speed to our outfield, and I look for her to be an impact player for us."
