REBELS VS. NICHOLLS STATE: This is the 19th meeting in the series dating back to 1962, and this weekend's three-game series is the first encounter between the two schools since 1991 ... Ole Miss leads the series 10-7-1, with the lone tie coming in 1975 (2-2 in Oxford) ... Ole Miss is 7-5-1 versus the Colonels in Oxford, and is 2-1 against Nicholls State at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

SCOUTING NICHOLLS STATE: The Colonels are 1-1 on the season having defeated SE Louisiana 8-6 at home on Wednesday and losing 8-0 to Ole Miss yesterday ... Sophomore 2B Bryan Daigle is leading the team in hitting for the young season, going 1-for-2 for a .500 average ... Sophomore C Jon Boruch and junior 1B Doug Gill are tied for the team-lead in RBIs with two, and Gill has hit the Colonels' lone home run of the 2000 campaign ... As a team, Nicholls State is hitting .242 and has a team ERA of 5.82.

PRE-SEASON RANKINGS: Ole Miss is ranked No. 40 in the preseason Collegiate Baseball Top 40 - one of five teams from the SEC Western Division to make the top 40 - and was listed among "Others Receiving Votes" in the USA Today/Baseball Weekly Coaches preseason Top 25 poll.

THE FIREMAN: Junior Justin Huisman comes into the 2000 season needing one save to become Ole Miss' all-time save leader. In his first two seasons at Ole Miss, Huisman has registered 13 saves to tie him with Skipper Wright (1983-1986) as the school's all-time leader in saves. Huisman converted on 10-of-14 save opportunities last season to break Rory Ferrell's 1977 single-season record of nine.

REBEL BULLET POINTS:

Ole Miss is 56-30 at home under fourth-year head coach Pat Harrison (.651 winning percentage), including a 21-5 mark in 1999. The .808 home winning percentage last season was the best in the 11-year history of Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

Over the past two seasons, Ole Miss is 46-7 (.867 winning percentage) when leading after seveninnings, and 50-3 (.943 winning percentage) when leading after eight innings.

Ole Miss is now 25-6 since the start of last season when scoring seven or more runs (.806 winning percentage).

The Rebels went 8-8 in Saturday games last season.

Yesterday's shutout of Nicholls State was the fifth posted by the Ole Miss pitching staff since the start of last season.
