Ole Miss goes 4-2 at Invitational
The Rebels snapped out of their winless streak with four wins during the Ole Miss Invitational. Ole Miss defeated Evansville once and Nicholls St. three times to improve to 4-7 on the season. Prior to the Rebels first win, they had lost 18 consecutive game dating back to last season. Ole Miss finished the Invitational with a three game winning streak.
Deuces Wild
Freshman Holly Burris has made her presence felt in the Rebels' lineup. In four appearances as a pitcher, Burris has a 2-1 record with a 0.00 earned run average. The Germantown, Tenn., native has not allowed an earned run in 22.0 innings of work, an Ole Miss Record. In addition, Burris, who wears No. 22, has not allowed more than two hits in each of her three starts and has allowed only two runners to advance past second base. Also, Burris has only given up three hits past the second inning in her three starts and has a strikeouts-to-walks ratio of 14-to-1.
It's Alive
After being comatose throughout UTA Invitational, the Ole Miss bats finally came to life. During the Ole Miss Invitational, the Rebels hit .377 as a team in the final three games and pounded out 10 doubles, three triples and one home run in the two-day tournament. The Rebels raised their team batting average 71 points during the tournament.
Oklahoma Rebs
Five Rebels will be making a homecoming this weekend as Ole Miss travels to the Oklahoma Adidas Invitational in Norman. OF Kara Chapman (Broken Arrow), 3B Kaci Coffee (Owasso), SS Mandy Shklar (Owasso), P Brittany Maxey (Yukon) and C Allison Willrath (Yukon) all call the Sooner state home.
Ole Miss vs. the Field
The Rebels will be taking on Southwest Missouri State, Oklahoma, Kansas, Creighton and Nicholls St. in the Oklahoma Invitational this weekend. Ole Miss will be meeting Creighton and Kansas for the first time. The Rebels are 0-2 all-time against the 8th-ranked Sooners, 5-2 against Nicholls State and 1-2 against Southwest Missouri St. Ole Miss will be facing Nicholls St. for the second consecutive week after the Lady Colonels participated in the Ole Miss Invitational.
Strong "D"
Once again defense has been the backbone of the Rebels in the early part of the season. The Rebels have a .964 fielding percentage and have three players ranked among the SEC leaders in fielding at their positions. Catcher Allison Willrath is tied for first in the conference with a perfect 1.000 percentage. Freshman Amanda Lehotak is fourth at second base with a .962 fielding percentage, while Mandy Shklar leads SEC shortstops with a .978 percentage. Shklar finished the 1999 season ranked second in the conference with a .949 percentage.
