REBELS VS. SOUTH ALABAMA: This weekend's series marks the 18th, 19th and 20th meetings between the two teams dating back to 1971 ... The Jaguars lead the all-time series 11-6, though, the Rebels have won three of the last four ... The two teams played a three-game series last year in Oxford with the Rebels taking two-of-three games ... They outscored USA 22-11 and out-hit the Jaguars 35-24 during the three-game set ... Ole Miss is 0-8 against USA in Mobile and has been outscored 64-28 ... The last time the two schools met in Mobile was in 1990 with the Jaguars winning two games, 8-2 and 6-5.

SCOUTING SOUTH ALABAMA: South Alabama brings a 3-3 record into this weekend's series ... The Jaguars swept a twinbill from Arkansas-Pine Bluff (18-3, 10-3) on Monday and lost 9-4 to Auburn on Wednesday ... USA is hitting .299 as a team with three HRs, and has outscored its opponents 60-40 ... Sophomore SS Tim Merritt leads the team in hitting with a .480 average (12-25) with one HR and five RBIs ... The Jaguars have stole 21-of-25 bases, led by Merritt's eight in nine tries ... USA pitchers have a combined ERA of 2.77, and opponents are hitting just .209 against them.

IN THE POLLS: Ole Miss is unranked in the three major college baseball polls, but did receive 38 votes in this week's Baseball Weekly/ESPN poll to finish ninth among "Others Receiving Votes."

AFTER SEVEN GAMES LAST YEAR: Ole Miss was 3-4 at this point last season ... The Rebels were hitting .328 as a team (87-265) with 11 HRs, 46 RBIs, 15 doubles and five triples ... They had outscored their opponents 55-48 ... Ole Miss had stole 5-of-8 bases ... Rebel pitchers had a cumulative ERA of 5.95 (59.0 IP, 39 ER), allowing 56 hits, including 10 HRs, 31 walks and struck out 34 ... REBEL BULLET POINTS:

Ole Miss is 99-45 (.688 winning percentage) all-time versus teams currently in the Sun Belt Conference. The Rebels were 4-2 against the Sun Belt Conference last season, defeating New Orleans at the Winn-Dixie Showdown, taking two-of-three from South Alabama in Oxford and splitting a home-and-home with Arkansas State.

The Rebels were 9-16 (.360 winning percentage) on the road last season.

Ole Miss starting pitchers have posted a combined ERA of 1.83 in 34.1 IP through seven games this season, and have allowed opponents to hit just .147 against them. Overall, opponents are hitting .173 against Rebel pitching, and Ole Miss has a team ERA of 2.25.

Was credited with the win versus the Colonels after being lifted due to a pitch count.

McAVOY AND SOUTH ALABAMA: This will be McAvoy's second career start and appearance against South Alabama ... In his only other appearance against the Jaguars, allowing one run on five hits and struck out eight in 7 1/3 innings to earn the win in a 4-1 Rebel victory during the opening game of last year's three-game series in Oxford.
