Softball Finishes Oklahoma Invitational With Two Wins

NORMAN, Okla. - The Ole Miss Rebels rallied from a 4-1 deficit to capture a 5-4 victory over the Creighton Blue Jays to go 2-0 in the final day of the Oklahoma Adidas Invitational.

Ole Miss (8-9) finishes the tournament with a 4-2 record.

Against Creighton, the Blue Jays put a run up in the first inning off a Temple Windhorst solo home run. Ole Miss' Kaci Coffee answered with a solo homer, her first of the season, in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1.

Creighton then scored two in the third and one in the fourth to go ahead 4-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Amanda Lehotak led off with a single and moved to second after Heather Swinney was hit by a pitch. After a Kaci Coffee sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, Jessica Hamilton brought them in with a single to right field.

Allison Willrath the doubled off the top of the left field fence to put runners on second and third with two outs. Mandy Shklar then singled to bring in Hamilton and Willrath and give the Rebels a 5-4 advantage.

Holly Burris, who relieved Lindsay Price in the fifth inning, pitched the final three innings without allowing a batter to reach base to seal the come-back win.

In the game one, Ole Miss got RBI's from Jessica Hamilton, Kaci Coffee and Heather Swinney during a four-run fourth inning. Mandy Shklar gave the Rebels a 5-0 lead with a run scoring single in the fourth inning.

The Colonels put up two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 5-2 game. But, the Rebels put the game away with four runs in the top of seventh.

With the bases loaded, Swinney walked to bring in catcher Phyllis Manley for a 6-2 lead. Coffee then tripled to center to clear the bases and give Ole Miss a 9-2 advantage.

Starting pitcher Brittany Maxey allowed two runs on five hits for her first victory of the season.

The Rebels return to action Friday, March 3, at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station.
