FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Lady Rebel Teneeshia Jones scored in 60 meters, 60-meter hurdles and 200 meters on her way to becoming the highest Lady Rebel scorer at the SEC Indoor Championships in Ole Miss history on the final day of competition at the 2000 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Rebels finished the two-day event in ninth place out of 12 teams, while the 23rd nationally-ranked Rebels finished in a tie for 10th place with Mississippi State out of the 11 team field. The Rebels were hurt on Saturday by failing to qualify for any running event finals, while picking up only five points on Sunday to finish with a team score of 17.5. The Lady Rebels, helped by Jones' 13 points, finished with a team score of 18.
Jones, a junior from Shannon, set school records in the 60 meters, 60-meter hurdles and the 200 meters on Saturday before coming back on Sunday to set a new Ole Miss 60-meter hurdles record. She is now provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships and qualified for the United States Indoor Championships in all three events.
After taking fifth in the 55 meters and 200 meters at last year's indoor championships, Jones topped her performances with fourth place finishes in the 60 meters and 200 meters and a sixth place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. Combining for 13 individual points, she finished the competition as the 10th highest women's point scorer of the meet. Along with the eight points she scored last year, Jones has now scored an Ole Miss record 21 points at the indoor championships in only two seasons of competition. She is also third in all-time scoring at the SEC Championships for both indoor and outdoor with 25.25 points.
A bright spot for the Rebels was the fourth place finish of Stacy Andrews in the weight throw. With a school record distance of 59-0.25, the freshman from Camden, Ark., topped his own Ole Miss record for the sixth time this season. After not being ranked in the top ten in the SEC entering the competition, he was the only Rebel to score at the championships on Sunday. His five points gave the Rebels their final team point total of 17.5.
In the final women's event of the competition, the 4x400-meter relay team comprised of Dawn Dickerson, Tarjatta Rose, Brandy Mack and Chika Chuku placed eighth to give Ole Miss an addition team point, bringing their final meet point total to 18.
Jones, Tisha Parker and Savante' Stringfellow are all qualified to compete in the United State Indoor Championships next weekend in Atlanta, Ga. Jones is qualified in the 60 meter, 60-meter hurdles and the 200 meters, while Parker and Stringfellow are qualified in the long jump.
Stringfellow is the only Ole Miss athlete automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. on March 10-11. He is currently ranked second nationally in the long jump. There are currently five athletes who are provisionally qualified for the championships. Jones and Parker are provisionally qualified in their same events, while Brandy Barnett is provisionally qualified in the high jump, Kino Mosley is provisionally qualified in the long jump and James Shelton is provisionally qualified in the 60 meters.
