Rebels Shut Down Memphis, 6-1

OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 6 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team won the doubles point and five of six singles to down the University of Memphis 6-1 Tuesday in the season opener, at the Women's Sports Complex.
The Rebels (1-0) won all three doubles matches. Kristofer Stahlberg and Patrick Chucri posted an 8-4 win over Michael Lattaie and Jamie Adams at No. 3 doubles and then James Shortall and Vikrant Chadha clinched the point with an 8-5 win over Alistair Todd and Ben Stapp at No. 1 doubles.
Ole Miss took a 2-0 lead after Chadha handed Daniel Demacek a straight set loss (6-3, 6- 4) at No. 3 singles. Freshman Alexander Hartman defeated Memphis' Todd 6-2, 6-7(1), 6-1 at No.2 singles.
Anders Stenman cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jack Hu at No. 5 singles and Chucri dominated Lattaie 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. Stahlberg beat the Tigers' Stapp 6-3, 6-4 to round out the Rebels.
The lone setback on the day came at No.1 singles, where Shortall lost to Richard Magney 7-6(3), 6-3.
The Rebels now prepare to face the 13th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs Thursday in the third annual River Hills Mississippi Cup at the River Hills Club in Jackson. The match begins at 5:00 p.m. and tickets are $20. For more information call 662-987-4455.
