OXFORD, Miss. - Fresh off their first-ever series win over Florida in Gainesville, the Ole Miss Rebels will begin a week long five-game homestand Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against in-state rival Southern Miss. Ole Miss will then host Eastern Illinois Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., before beginning a three-game Southeastern Conference series with Tennessee Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday's game with the Panthers was originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m., but was moved to 2:00 p.m., to avoid conflicts with the Rebels' men's basketball team hosting UNC-Charlotte in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) at 7:00 p.m., in the Tad Smith Coliseum.
Redshirt freshman right-hander Joseph Liberto is scheduled to make his first career start for Ole Miss (12-6, 2-1 SEC) against the Golden Eagles. Liberto has made four appearances in relief this season, and is 0-0 with a 2.79 ERA. He worked 6 2/3 scoreless innings of relief against then fourth-ranked Baylor last Tuesday in Oxford.
Southern Miss (10-8) is expected to counter with freshman left-hander Chad Christian. Christian is 0-1 with a 3.29 ERA in five relief appearances.
Tuesday's game will be the second and final meeting of the year between the two schools. The Golden Eagles rallied from 10 runs down, scoring 12 in the final three innings, to defeat the Rebels 15-14 on Feb. 29 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
