No. 16 Women's Tennis Falls To Vanderbilt, 6-3

OXFORD, Miss. - Vanderbilt junior Julie Ditty and freshman Sarah Riske both won their singles matches and then teamed to post a win at No. 2 doubles to lead the 12th-ranked Commodores to a 6-3 Southeastern Conference women's tennis win over 16th-ranked Ole Miss on Friday.
Ole Miss fell to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in the SEC, while Vanderbilt improved to 14-1 overall and 6-0 in the league.
The Commodores jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the strength of Ditty's and Riske's wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Ditty defeated Ole Miss' Ivona Mihailova, 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Riske posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Julie DeRoo at No. 2 singles. Vanderbilt then increased its advantage to 4-0 after wins by Kristy Blumberg at No. 3 singles and Jenny Miller at No. 4 singles.
The Lady Rebels responded with victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles, cutting the Commodore lead to 4-2. Ole Miss senior Mariana Eberle posted a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 win over Kate Burson at No. 5 singles, while Lady Rebel sophomore Alesya Ignatieva defeated Annie Plessinger, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.
Vanderbilt wrapped up the match with two narrow 9-8 wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Blumberg and Burson defeated DeRoo and Eberle at No. 1 doubles, while Ditty and Riske won at No. 2 doubles with a victory over Celeste Frey and Irena Mihailova. The Lady Rebel No. 3 doubles team of Ivona Mihailova and Ignatieva posted an 8-4 win over Miller and Plessinger.
The Lady Rebels return to action on Sunday, Mar. 19 when they host William & Mary in an 11:00 a.m. (CT) match.
