Rebel Netters Down South Florida, 6-1

OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 10 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team won the doubles point and jumped on the South Florida Bulls in singles to take a 6-1 win in non- conference action Friday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Ole Miss improves to 10-3 overall, while South Florida drops to 8-13.
Ole Miss won the doubles point sweeping all three matches. Court one provided the biggest drama as James Shortall and Vikrant Chadha were down 4-0 to South Florida's Fabio Tintori and Steve Capriati, but came back to win the match 9-7.
In singles, the Rebels won all five matches in straight sets. Alex Hartman was up 6-2, 2- 1 over Capriati, when the Bull retired at No. 2 singles. Martin Selin made it 3-0 by downing Nadim Naser 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles and then Anders Stenman clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ernest Diaz at No. 6 singles.
Shortall defeated Tintori 6-2, 7-6(4) at No. 1 singles and then Kristofer Stahlberg finished off Alexs Popovic 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to close out the Rebel scoring. Stahlberg is now 10- 3 in dual matches and has won five of his last six matches. In the Rebels' last six matches, Stahlberg is a combined 11-1 in singles and doubles.
The only win for South Florida came at No. 3 singles where Boris Babic held off Rebel Chadha 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
The Rebels return to conference action Sunday as they host Vanderbilt at 1:00 p.m.
