OXFORD, Miss. -- Spring football drills at Ole Miss will come to an end here Saturday with Grove Bowl 2000. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field.
"We're looking for a competitive game between two evenly divided teams," said Rebel head coach David Cutcliffe. "We want to see how individual players respond to starting a game. This game should give us a good evaluation in a lot of areas."
Several players will be held out of Saturday's Red-Blue game due to injuries. They include running backs Charles Stackhouse and Toward Sanford, offensive lineman Belton Johnson, wide receiver Ryan Huskey, and linebacker Chad Cook. Defensive back Syniker Taylor, who missed spring drills due to basketball, will not participate.
"We've made some moves in the secondary and switched Eddie Strong from outside linebacker to the middle," Cutcliffe added. "It will be interesting to see how they respond to their new positions. We plan to play six to eight people at the defensive tackle spot."
The annual Grove Bowl is sponsored by the M-Club Alumni Chapter with all proceeds going to the M-Club J.W. "Wobble" Davidson Scholarship Fund. General admission tickets cost $10 each with Ole Miss students and children 12 and under to be admitted free.
Tickets will be on sale in The Grove at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and at the Rebel Shop Ticket Office at noon. Only the West side stands of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium will be in use Saturday. Entry will be though gates 11, 12, and 13, beginning at 12:30.
Parking is open to the general public with the exception of the West lot behind the press box. Admission to park in this area is a $5.00 donation to the M-Club Alumni Chapter.
Fans attending Saturday's spring game are expected to come early and enjoy a great atmosphere in The Grove, which will include live music, cheerleaders, and an autograph session with the Rebels, beginning around 10:45. Live music by Dr. Zarr's Amazing Funk Monster begins at 10:30.
