Men's Tennis Downs Southern Mississippi, 6-0

OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 8 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team downed Southern Mississippi 6-0 Saturday afternoon at the Women's Sports Complex to improve to 5-2 on the year.
Ole Miss took the opening doubles point with convincing wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Southern Mississippi's only win on the day came at No. 1 doubles as Mikka Kangas and Daniel Homedes defeated the Rebels' James Shortall and Vikrant Chadha 9-7.
The Rebels won four of the five singles matches in straight sets. Freshman Alexander Hartman, playing at No. 1 singles, dominated Mathias Warren 6-2, 6-2. Chadha cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Daniel Homedes at No. 3 singles to make it 3-0, and then Martin Selin clinched the victory dominating Uwe Gneiting 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Kristofer Stahlberg defeated David Jansson 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Shortall held off Kangas 7-6(4), 6-7(3), 6-3 at No. 2 singles to close out the scoring for the Rebels.
Ole Miss nows faces a huge test in its Southeastern Conference opener as they travel to Knoxville Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. match against Tennessee, who is ranked No. 5 in the nation. The Rebels will be looking to avenge a 4-3 loss to the Volunteers last year in Oxford.
