Oxford, Miss. - The Rebel softball team signed California junior college players Kristi DiMarco and Amber Slaton for the 2001 season.
DiMarco and Slaton are currently enrolled at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, Calif., and will have two years of eligibility remaining when they join the Rebels next season.
"We are very happy to have signed two outstanding young players like Kristi and Amber," Ole Miss head coach Candi Letts said. "Kristi hits with power and has tremendous speed. She is a very solid defensive player and has an extremely strong arm."
DiMarco, a centerfielder who attended Palmdale High School, was hitting .875 with six doubles, 10 runs batted in, 10 stolen bases and two home runs this season for Antelope Valley College.
An infielder who attended Quartz Hill High School in Lancaster, Slaton had a .667 batting average with four doubles and four RBI for Antelope Valley this season.
"Amber is another strong hitter. She has excellent agility and footwork and will be a solid shortstop for us," Letts added.
"We are losing seven seniors after this season and these two signees will provide solid depth for us. We will look to them to provide some level of leadership since they have experience at the collegiate level."
The Rebels have signed five players for the 2001 season, including pitcher/utility player Lindsey Bonnell, infielder Desiree Layman and catcher Jennifer Poore.
The Rebels are 17-32 this season and will host Kentucky on Friday, and Tennessee on Saturday. Ole Miss trails the Vols by one game for the eighth and final spot for the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
