OXFORD, Miss. - Tenisha Gist, a 5-10 forward from Athens, Tenn., has signed a national letter of intent to attend Ole Miss beginning in the 2000-01 academic year, Lady Rebel head coach Ron Aldy announced Wednesday.

"We are pleased that Tenisha is joining our program," Aldy said. "She is an excellent athlete who has the ability to become a good player in this league." Tenisha is someone that could come in and play early. She has excellent speed and quickness, and jumps well.

"Tenisha comes from a very good basketball program and has solid basketball fundamentals. Off the court, Tenisha is an outstanding student academically and a fine young lady who we think will fit in nicely with our program."

Gist played for Ed Clenendenen at McMinn County High School. She earned Miss Basketball in Tennessee and was named a USA Today Honorable Mention All-American. In addition, Gist was named to the Women's Basketball Journal Top 100 Seniors' list.

A first-team All-State selection her sophomore, junior and seniors years, Gist averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds per game. This past year, Gist led her team to a 28-7 record and the Regional Championship.

Gist becomes the fourth signee of the 2000-01 Lady Rebel class joining Sherika Wright of Augusta, Ga., Tywanna Inmon of West Memphis, Ark., and Saundra Jackson of Beaufort, S.C., who signed with Ole Miss during the early signing period in November.
