Bartlett, Rebel Men's Golf Finishes Sixth At SEC Championships

KILLEN, Ala. - The Ole Miss men's golf team, keyed by Jon Bartlett's final-round 70, shot a 289 on Sunday to finish sixth at the SEC Championships. The Rebels closed with a 304-293-289--886 at the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club to tie their best conference finish since placing third in 1988.

Bartlett, a senior from Ocala, Fla., moved up Sunday to finish sixth with a 73-71-70--214. It is Bartlett's sixth top 10 finish of the year and the ninth straight tournament that he has placed in the top 20.

Junior Phil Caravia finished in a tie for 35th with a 78-71-77--226, while fellow junior Troy Muller and senior Chris Malloy tied for 40th, each carding a three-round 228. Freshman Andrew Medley fired a 71 today to end with a 230 and tie for 46th .

Georgia shot a final-round 288 and held off second-place Auburn to capture the SEC crown with an 852, the lowest score at the championships since 1993. AU's Roland Thatcher took individual medalist honors, after turning in a 68 on Sunday. Thatcher had a three round score of 208 and finished three shots ahead of Mississippi State's Alex Rocha, Auburn's Jason Dufner and Georgia's Erik Compton, who each had three-round scores of 211.

The Rebels return to action May 8-9 at the Atlanta Intercollegiate at Eagles Landing. The NCAA East Regional is May 18-20 in Moosic, Pa. Ole Miss finished ninth in last year's regional and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1985.
