Rebels Drop Two To No. 16 Lady Cajuns

LAFAYETTE, La. - Although Ole Miss outhit 16th-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette in both games, the Lady Cajuns managed to sweep the double-header from the visiting Rebels.
Ole Miss falls to 17-28 overall after the sweep and has now lost a season high seven consecutive games. The Lady Cajuns improve to 29-9 on the years.
In game one, the Rebels managed just one run after loading the bases with one out in the top of the third inning. Catcher Phyllis Manley led off the inning with a single to center and moved to second after a bunt single by Amanda Lehotak. Mandy Shklar also bunted safely to load the bases.
Heather Swinney then singled up the middle to score Manley for her 21st RBI of the season and give Ole Miss a 1-0 advantage.
The Lady Cajuns took the lead in the bottom of the third after Michelle Hummel had a lead-off double and later scored on a fielder's choice by Jerie Alexander. Tiffany Clark then singled to right to bring in Alana Addison who reached on a walk. Jana Mower then grounded out to second base to score Alexander to give the Lady Cajuns a 3-1 lead.
The Lady Cajuns broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning. Addison led off the inning with a walk, then moved to second after Alexander reached on a fielder's choice. Tiffany Clark then cleared the bases with a three-run homer to left to make it a 6-1 game. Jana Mower then made it back-to-back homers with a solo shot to left to give the Lady Cajuns a 7-1 lead.
The loss was the sixth straight loss for the Rebels, matching their longest of the season.
In game two, Heather Swinney led-off the game with her fourth home run of the season to give Ole Miss a 1-0 advantage. The homer was Swinney's second in the last seven games and gave the Rebels a team record eight home runs this season.
But, the Rebels did not hold the lead for long as the Lady Cajuns responded with four runs in the bottom of the first off starter Brittany Maxey.
Alana Addison and Tiffany Clark singled with one out and Jana Mower reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Michelle Bailon then ripped the first pitch to left field that bounced out of Amanda Lehotak's glove and over the fence for a grandslam.
Ole Miss put three runs up in the top of the second to tie the game at 4-4. Korrie Kashuba and Rachel Davenport singled with two out, Jamie Cummings then walked to load the bases.
Swinney then doubled to right-center to clear the bases and tie the game. The three runs gave Swinney four RBI for the game to tie a team record.
The Lady Cajuns regained the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning off relief pitcher Jennifer Hughes when Megan Fields doubled home Summar Lapeyrouse for a 5-4 lead.
The Rebels travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the 14th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in an SEC West showdown. Ole Miss and the Tide open the four-game series at 5 p.m. on Friday.
