Ole Miss Softball Drops Two To Alabama On Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama's Kelly Kretschman went 4-for-7 with two RBI and three runs scored to lead the Crimson Tide to a 7-2, 8-0 doubleheader sweep over Ole Miss in Southeastern Conference softball action on Saturday. The Crimson Tide improved to 46-7 overall and 16-2 in the league, while the Rebels fell to 17-32 overall and 4-12 in the SEC.
Kretschman went hitless in the first game, but bounced back with a 4-for-4 performance in game two for Alabama. She also had two RBI and two runs scored in the second game. Ginger Jones went 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in the two games for the Crimson Tide.
Rebel freshman Amanda Lehotak led the Ole Miss offense with a 4-for-6 performance in the doubleheader. She also scored two runs. Senior Heather Swinney was 2-for-5 with an RBI in the two games for Ole Miss.
In the first game, the Rebels grabbed an early lead in the first inning. Lehotek led off the first with a single and later scored when Swinney singled and moved all the way to third on an Alabama error. The Crimson Tide, however, responded with six unanswered runs over the next three innings to take a 6-1 lead. Ole Miss put another run on the board in the top of the fifth inning when Lehotek scored on a Swinney single.
Shelley Laird (24-4) went the distance for Alabama in picking up the win. Laird allowed two runs on seven hits, while striking out eight. Jennifer Hughes (3-5) took the loss, striking out five in five innings.
The Crimson Tide jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back en route to an 8-0 win in game two. Alabama sent all nine batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring four runs on three hits.
Ole Miss was never able to get on track offensively in game two, as the Crimson Tide's Julie Lindner (8-1) held the Rebels to only two hits while striking out four. Holly Burris (10-11) suffered the loss for Ole Miss.
Ole Miss returns to action on Apr. 14-15 at Rebel Softball Stadium. The Rebels host Kentucky on Friday (Apr. 14) and Tennessee on Saturday (Apr. 15). The Friday doubleheader will start at 5:00 p.m. (CT), while Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 2:30 p.m. (CT).
