Four Lady Rebel Netters Advance In NCAA Championships

MALIBU, Calif. - Ivona Mihailova, Celeste Frey, Julie DeRoo and Mira Radu of the Ole Miss women's tennis team all posted victories in the first round of competition at the NCAA Singles Championships Monday, to advance to the second round.
Mihailova, ranked No. 16 in the nation, started the day off with a straight set 6-4, 6-1 win over Ana Frignovic of New Mexico. The win snaps her three-match losing streak. Mihailova will play the winner of the Alison Bradshaw (Arizona State) and Lauren Kalvaria (Stanford) match at noon, cst. Tuesday.
DeRoo, ranked No. 44 in the country, won the first set against the nation's No. 2 player Sara Walker of UCLA 6-2, and it was 5-5 in the second when Walker retired. DeRoo will meet Arkansas' Chin Bee Khoo (19th-ranked) in the second round.
Radu defeated Janet Bergman of Wake Forest in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the second round, where she will face the defending NCAA Champion Zuzana Lesenarova of San Diego State.
Capping off a successful day for the Lady Rebels, Frey rallied to beat Monika Horvath of Pepperdine 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 to win her seventh match in a row. She will play the winner of the Aarthi Venkatesan (Georgia)/Lindsay Blau (Arizona) match.
