Women's Tennis Bows Out At NCAA Championships

MALIBU, Calif. -- All four of the Ole Miss women's tennis players competing in the NCAA Singles Championships bowed out in the second round Tuesday ending the Lady Rebels season.
After a long delay due to fog and mist, senior Ivona Mihailova lost her second round match to the No. 6 seed Alison Bradshaw of Arizona State 6-2, 6-1. Mihailova finishes the year at 23-14 overall. She ended her four-year career with 105 victories and three trips to the NCAA Singles Championships.
Freshman Julie DeRoo, competing in her first NCAA Championships, dropped a 7-6(3), 6-2 decision to Arkansas' Chin Bee Khoo, who is ranked No. 19 in the nation. She finished her first campaign with a 23-12 record.
The Lady Rebels' other freshman Mira Radu had to face the defending NCAA Champion Zuzana Lesenarova (San Diego), and she held her own in the first set losing in a tiebreaker, but Lesenarova would go on to win 7-6(3), 6-3. Radu finished her first season with a team-leading 35-12 record.
In one of the longest matches of the day, senior Celeste Frey took the No. 5 seed Aarthi Venkatesan of Georgia to three sets in a three-hour marathon in which Venkatesan won 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-3. Frey ended the season with a 25-13 record.
