OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss women's tennis assistant coach Pat Breen resigned to become the head men's tennis coach at the University of Louisiana-Monroe Lady Rebel head coach Jerry Montgomery announced Tuesday.

After several seasons as coach of both the men's and women's teams at Samford University, Breen joined the Lady Rebel program last fall to gain experience in a highly-ranked program. The Lady Rebels finished the year ranked among the nation's top 20 and participated in the NCAA Championships for the eighth time.

"I appreciate Pat's hard work and maturity," Montgomery said. "He made a good, solid contribution to our women's tennis program. I enjoyed working with him and it was good to see him develop his coaching skills.

"Pat is well prepared to become a head men's tennis coach and Louisiana-Monroe is very fortunate to have him. As I told coach (Warner) Alford, I think Pat will bring stability to their program and enable them to move up several levels."

The search for a replacement will begin immediately, Montgomery said.
