CARLSBAD, Calif. - Several Heisman hopefuls and three Florida State Seminoles highlight the first-team selections on the 2000 FANSonly/Student Advantage Pre-Season All-America Team announced Thursday. There were no unanimous picks among those chosen by Collegiate Sports Information Directors from across the country. Defending national champion Florida State paced the squad by placing end Roland Seymour, cornerback Tay Cody, and safety Derrick Gibson on the defensive first-team. Early Heisman candidates Deuce McAllister of Ole Miss, Drew Brees of Purdue and Santana Moss of Miami (Fla.), were among the marquee names voted on to the first-team offense.

Considered one of the nation's top all-purpose players heading into the 2000 campaign, McAllister needs only 21 carries to tie the Ole Miss career record for rushing attempts and only 361 yards to tie the school career rushing mark. A prolific quarterback, Brees has been on the Heisman radar screen for two years, having thrown for 3,983 yards and 39 touchdowns in 1998 and 3,909 yards and 25 touchdowns in 1999. Perhaps the nation's most explosive wideout, Moss could enjoy a breakout season after making 54 catches for 899 yards and six TDs last year. Also an electrifying return man, Moss originally came to Miami to run track, then walked onto the football team.

Rounding out the first-team offense are running back LaDainian Tomlinson, Texas Christian, wide receiver David Terrell, Michigan, tight end Todd Heap, Arizona State, center Dominic Raiola, Nebraska, guards Steve Hutchinson, Michigan and Russ Hochstein, Nebraska, and tackles Pork Chop Womack, Mississippi State and Kareem McKenzie, PennState, kicker Jamie Rheem, Kansas State.

The remaining first-team defense includes tackles Wendell Bryant, Wisconsin and Willie Howard, Stanford, end Alex Brown, Florida, outside linebackers Keith Adams, Clemson and Eric Westmoreland, Tennessee, inside linebacker Zeke Moreno, Southern Cal, cornerback Jamar Fletcher, safety Robert Carswell, Clemson, punter Nick Harris, California.

Sophomore quarterback Michael Vick of 2000 National Runner-up Virginia Tech heads the names on the FANSonly/Student Advantage All-America second-team. Other second-team offensive selections are running backs LaMont Jordan, Maryland and Ricky Williams, Texas Tech, wide receivers Freddie Milons, Alabama and Quincy Morgan, Kansas State, tight end Alge Crumpler, North Carolina, center Paul Hogan, Alabama, guards Brian Polack, UCLA and Bill Ferrario, Wisconsin, tackles Leonard Davis, Texas and Jeff Backus, Michigan, kicker Dan Nystrom Minnesota.

The second-team defense selections are tackles Casey Hampton, Texas and Ennis Davis, USC, ends Justin Smith, Missouri and Andre Carter, California, outside linebackers Saleem Rasheed, Alabama and Jason Glenn, Texas A&M, inside linebacker Carlos Polk, Nebraska, cornerbacks Fred Smoot, Mississippi State and Renaldo Hill, Michigan State, safeties Jerrod Cooper, Kansas State and Tony Driver, Notre Dame, punter Dan Hadenfeldt, Nebraska.
