OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe was pleased with his team's effort on the first day of full-squad two-a-days, despite having Thursday's evening practice cut short due to severe thunderstorms in the Oxford-area.
The Rebels were only able to get in thirty minutes of their scheduled two-hour workout before the bad weather hit. Cutcliffe said the team used the slated practice time to get in some extra team meeting sessions.
"It was good work in a short period," Cutcliffe said of the evening practice. "After looking at the films from the morning practice, I thought our work was really, really good. We were able to get some individual work in this evening. We missed the team time but we'll be able to make this up as we have some leeway in the schedule. At this time, it's great to gather as much meeting time as we can. We're going to use this time for some extra meeting time and make the most of it."
In the morning, Ole Miss went through a two-hour non-contact practice, focusing on fundamentals.
"I thought we threw and caught the ball as well as I've seen on a first day," Cutcliffe said following the morning workout. "The receivers were impressive with their effort, routes and catching. I was also pleased with the way the secondary moved around. It's difficult to have an opinion on the lineman until we're in full pads, but the retention of our assignments was good on both sides of the ball. It's obvious we're in good condition."
Sophomore fullback Toward Sanford missed Thursday's workouts with a sprained ankle. He is listed as day-to-day.
