OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss football team continued two-a-day practices here Monday as the Rebels worked in pads during the morning session and in shorts at night.
"We had a good start during the morning practice and made a lot of progress tonight," head coach David Cutcliffe said. "I am particularly pleased with our quarterbacks and what I've seen from them, especially Romaro (Miller). He had as good a practice as I've seen him have.
"I thought our receivers did a good job, particularly our young receivers. They did some things that I really liked. We still have a long way to go, but we have something to build on there."
The Rebels will continue their schedule of full contact workouts Tuesday morning and then once again practice in shorts during the evening session.
"We have another important full contact practice set for Tuesday morning and that will tell a lot more about our attitude. I am anxious to see how we respond to that. This is the first time I've done practice this way and I've really liked it to this point. Our goal was to have less missed practice time and it's working. We have fewer players missing practice.
"Afternoon thunderstorms are common around here, and I felt if we could get the majority of our contact and major work done in the morning, then we would be less likely to miss practice time."
Fans can greet the Rebels this Saturday at "Meet the Rebels Day." Players and coaches will be available in The Grove from 1:00-3:30 p.m. for pictures and autographs. The Rebels open the season here Sept. 2 against Tulane. That game will be televised on Jefferson-Pilot with kickoff at 11:37 a.m.
