OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebels concluded their two-a-day practices Friday working on game situations in preparation of Saturday's first major scrimmage of the pre-season.
Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe said that several key players will probably miss the scrimmage, including running backs Deuce McAllister, Charles Stackhouse and Robert Williams, offensive lineman Matt Koon and Keydrick Vincent, and wide receiver Jamie Armstrong. Williams, a sophomore, sprained his knee in Friday's morning practice.
Junior running back Joe Gunn, who suffered a mild concussion on Tuesday, returned to practice Wednesday and is expected to see limited action in Saturday's scrimmage.
"We're going to go out Saturday with the people we have healthy just like if we had to play," Cutcliffe said. "We'll be without a lot of our front-line players on both sides of the ball. We're going to get the people that are healthy ready to go."
Cutcliffe also announced Friday that freshman linebacker Wesley Holmes did not satisfy NCAA eligibility requirements and will not be a member of the team.
Meet the Rebels Day is scheduled for Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in The Grove. Due to the expected large crowd, fans will be limited to one autograph per player and coach.
