OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe and his team picked up the intensity at practice Monday. The Rebels hit the practice fields in the afternoon after attending their first day of classes.

"I felt like the tempo of our practice picked up, which we intended to do," Cutcliffe said. "We're going to have to get used to the game-type speed and game-type conditions."

The Rebels had their first afternoon practice session of the fall after practicing during the early evenings during two-a-days. Cutcliffe had mixed reviews over how his players responded to the added challenge of the heat.

"It was hotter out there this afternoon than it has been during our evening sessions," Cutcliffe said, "Some of us responded and some of us didn't. This is what is going to separate who is going to be there on September 2, and who is not."

The Rebels will head to the practice fields for another afternoon workout Tuesday, as they prepare for their season opener on Sept. 2 against Tulane. Kickoff for the first game of the 2000 season is set for 11:35 a.m., and will be aired by Jefferson-Pilot.
