Women's Volleyball Defeats Sam Houston State, 3-1

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Ole Miss volleyball team earned their first win of the 2000 season Friday, after defeating Sam Houston State 15-10, 15-9, 12-15, 15-5, at the Texas-San Antonio Invitational. With the win, the Lady Rebels move to 1-1 on the season after falling to the host Roadrunners in their first match of the day, 15-9, 15-5, 15-13.

Senior setter Renata Nowacki led the way for Ole Miss against the Bearkats as she set new career highs in assists with 56 and block assists with three. Junior outside hitter Jaime Burns led the team in kills with 18. Burns also added nine digs.

Two Lady Rebels posted double-doubles as senior outside hitter Kira Zschau tallied 11 kills and 13 digs and junior right-side hitter Leigh Rittiner recorded 10 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Sarah Lansden added eight kills and 13 digs for Ole Miss.

In the first match of the day, Burns was the lone Lady Rebel in double figures as she tallied 15 kills and 14 digs. Nowacki led Ole Miss in assists with 34 and also had nine digs.

The Lady Rebels will return to action Saturday, as they will face Oregon and Wyoming to close out the UTSA tournament. Ole Miss will play the Ducks at 9 a.m. and the Cowgirls at 5 p.m.
