Ole Miss Loses Heartbreaker to Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Lady Rebel volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker to Kentucky, 15-8, 6-15, 8-15, 15-9, 15-10, on Sunday, to fall to 0-2 in SEC play and 6-7 overall. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 2-0 in conference play and 4-8 on the season.

Ole Miss fell behind early by dropping game one, but then rebounded to win games two and three. The two teams battled throughout game four with Kentucky pulling it out and then the Wildcats went on to defeat the Lady Rebels in game five.

Senior outside hitter Kira Zschau led the Lady Rebels with 20 kills, 14 digs and six blocks. Junior right side hitter Leigh Rittiner tallied 10 kills and four blocks and sophomore outside hitter Erica Tricco posted 11 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Karla Zschau recorded nine kills and 15 digs. Junior middle blocker Abby Hollander registered six kills and nine blocks and senior setter Renata Nowacki tallied 41 assists and seven digs for Ole Miss.

The Wildcats were paced by outside hitter Kristen Batt who recorded 24 kills and 11 digs and setter Whitney Sample who contributed 58 assists.

The Lady Rebels return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Jonesboro, Ark., to take on Arkansas State at 6:30 p.m.
