OXFORD, Miss. - Based on the evaluation of The Communicator Awards' judges, a University of Mississippi Athletic Department television commercial,"We Take This Game Seriously," has been recognized with a Crystal Award of Excellence in the category of Creativity/Concept in a Television Commercial/Video.

The winning entry was a concept spot promoting Ole Miss football season tickets for the 2000 season. Season ticket sales reached 31,684 in 2000, which established a new record for the school. The commercial was produced by the University's Teleproductions Resource Center (TRC), in conjunction with TeleSouth Broadcasting, the marketing partner of the Athletic Department.

"It was evident that a lot of thought and hard work went into making the football season ticket commercial," said Ole Miss Athletic Director John Shafer. "It is always gratifying when our people are recognized for their good work. The TV commercial was a big part of our overall season ticket marketing plan."

Honorable Mention in the The Communicator Awards 2000 Video Competition was given to "Ole Miss Basketball with Rod Barnes," a half hour basketball show, which is also produced by TRC, in conjunction with TeleSouth Broadcasting.

Marketing Coordinator Connie Braseth and TRC Assistant Director/Sports Producer J. Stern conceived the commercial early last summer. "We thought we'd try something a little different, so we used a humorous approach,"Braseth said. "Showing a bunch of highlights has been done so much. We wanted to get folks talking about it."

"We were very excited to create a unique commercial," Stern said. "We took a bit of a different approach than we had in past years. We brought in a gifted photographer and professional actors, as well as University personnel to make this concept a reality," added Stern, who also produces "Ole Miss Basketball with Rod Barnes."
